I’ve been kayak fishing since 2000, and my personal best calico bass and yellowtail both came off of a trip I took last year down to Cedros Island. If you like beautiful scenery, great camaraderie, and world class fishing, you need to take a kayak fishing mothership trip on the Qualifier 105. The boat leaves out of Point Loma Sportfishing where the experienced and friendly crew will help load your gear and kayaks before taking off down the coast of Baja California. After a little travel on the 105 foot hotel, we pull in to a pristine bay where we’re sent off on the kayaks to target a variety of fish species including giant calico bass and homeguard yellowtail. The coastline of Baja and the amount of wildlife present in these waters is remarkable. Kelp forests that are rich with life go on for miles following the contours of the land and islands.

Throwing topwater plastics into boiler rocks and getting instantly slammed by trophy calicos is unreal; watching a school of thirty plus pound yellowtails compete to crush your surface iron in six feet of crystal clear water is mind boggling; running out a little further for a day of wide open tuna fishing is a workout, yelling with joy as a whales come up for air all around our kayak – these are all things that I experienced on a 7-day kayak/skiff trip on the Qualifier 105 this June. We ate like kings, we slept like babies, we had a blast with the crew and fellow anglers on board, and best of all, we caught the trophy fish we came down to Cedros Island to catch, and plenty of them!
